Busan to Gyeongju KTX vs Bus Guide: ₩10,100 vs ₩8,400, Station Trap & Bus 11 [2026]
Comparing Busan to Gyeongju KTX vs bus for a day trip? The fare gap almost vanished this autumn, so the real question is where each one drops you. Gyeongju (경주), the old Silla capital, is under an hour away either way, yet a wrong pick can add 40 minutes and a pricey taxi.
Most English guides still say "take the KTX to Singyeongju". Here is the ultimate Easy Route Korea tactical guide to 2026 fares, the station-name trap, the Haeundae shortcut and the bus to Bulguksa!
⚖️ 1. Busan to Gyeongju KTX vs Bus: The 30-Second Verdict
Pick by your start point in Busan and where you sleep in Gyeongju, not by the ticket price:
🚄 KTX wins if…
- You start near Busan Station or Nampo: trains take about 27–35 minutes from Busan Station.
- You stay at Bomun Lake or head straight to Bulguksa.
- You need a late return: last trains back leave after 22:00.
🚌 Bus wins if…
- You start in north Busan (Nopo, Busan National University, Beomeosa) or around Seomyeon.
- You sleep downtown near Daereungwon or Hwangnidan-gil: the bus ends right in the city.
- You hate timetables: about 50 departures a day.
💳 2. Busan to Gyeongju Fares & Times: KTX, Donghae Line & Intercity Bus
All fares below are adult, one-way, as listed in November 2026:
| Option | Board in Busan | Fare | Ride & Arrival |
|---|---|---|---|
| KTX | Busan Station (Line 1, 113) | From ₩10,100 | 27–35 min ➔ Gyeongju Station (outside the city) |
| Intercity Bus | Nopo terminal (Line 1, 134) | ₩8,400 22:00 night bus ₩10,100 |
About 50 min ➔ Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal (downtown) |
| KTX-Eum (Donghae Line) |
Bujeon, Centum, Sinhaeundae | ₩12,500 from Bujeon | About 1 hr ➔ Gyeongju Station |
| ITX-Maum / Mugunghwa | Bujeon, Centum, Sinhaeundae | ₩10,100 / ₩6,800 from Bujeon | About 1.5 hr ➔ Gyeongju Station |
*KTX fares dropped after the September 1, 2026 KTX–SRT merger, but a few departures still show ₩11,000. Intercity bus fares rose 9% on October 1, 2026 (was ₩7,700). Confirm before you go.
Booking tip: November weekends are busy, so reserve KTX seats early with our KTX booking guide for foreigners. If you start in Haeundae, the Donghae Line saves the long cross-town ride: board at Sinhaeundae or Centum, but only a few KTX-Eum trains a day stop there.
🏷️ The Station-Name Trap
Singyeongju Station no longer exists by that name. It was renamed Gyeongju Station (경주역) on December 28, 2023, and the old downtown Gyeongju Station closed at the end of 2021. In the booking app, select 경주 (Gyeongju). Seogyeongju (서경주) is a different, small station.
🚌 3. How to Ride the Busan to Gyeongju Bus from Nopo
🚇 Getting to Nopo
Busan Central Bus Terminal (부산종합버스터미널) is beside Nopo Station, the last stop on Metro Line 1: 15 stops from Seomyeon and 21 from Busan Station, so allow most of an hour from the south of the city. Fares and transfers are covered in our Busan Metro 1-day pass guide.
🎫 Buying the Ticket
- On the day: Use the counter or ticket machines inside the terminal.
- In advance: Book through T-money's intercity service (txbus.t-money.co.kr or the T-money GO app). Our express & intercity bus booking guide walks through it.
- All deluxe: Every daytime departure is a 우등 (deluxe) bus with wide 3-across seats, from 06:20 until the 22:00 night bus.
🚏 Finding Your Bay
The building houses two operators. Gyeongju is an intercity (시외) route run by Busan Dongbu Bus Terminal, so it boards from the intercity bays, not the express-bus bays 1–17 (one 2026 route listing names bay 27). Check your ticket and the screen above the gates. Some buses continue to Pohang, so get off at Gyeongju.
📍 4. After Arrival: Gyeongju Station vs the Bus Terminal
🚄 Arriving at Gyeongju Station (KTX & Donghae Line)
The station sits in Geoncheon-eup, well west of the historic core. City buses 50, 51 and 70 head downtown in about 30–40 minutes. Since July 2026 the 700 also links the station with Bomun and Bulguksa. City bus fare is ₩1,450 by transit card or ₩1,500 cash, so tap the same T-money you use in Busan. Coming from Seoul? Compare routes in our Seoul to Busan KTX vs bus guide.
Taxi warning: Rides starting outside a radius of roughly 5 km from central Gyeongju carry a combined out-of-town surcharge (reported at 55%), and the station is outside it. A taxi into town can cost more than your KTX ticket.
🚌 Arriving at the Intercity Bus Terminal
- Walk to the tombs: Daereungwon and Hwangnidan-gil are roughly a 15–20 minute walk east of the terminal.
- Bus to Bulguksa: Take bus 11 from the terminal stops. It reaches Bulguksa in about 35 minutes via the National Museum, with departures from about 06:15 to 21:30. Bus 10 loops the opposite way via Bomun Lake.
- Luggage lockers: Visitor reports note that the intercity terminal has no lockers. Use the express bus terminal next door, which has lockers at its entrance and inside by the Gyeongju bread shop. Gyeongju Station has 24-hour lockers on the ground floor.
- Return trip: The intercity (시외) and express (고속) terminals are separate buildings. Buses back to Nopo leave from the intercity side, so check the terminal name on your ticket.
Staying in Haeundae? Save a coastal morning for Haedong Yonggungsa Temple on another day.
